From a Viral Video to a CNC Machine in the High Tech Lab
Stan got a Carvera Air CNC milling machine after his YouTube video went viral. Together with Ibe and Thomas, he works on drones in the High Tech Lab and uses the machine for their start-up Incutec.
A new Carvera Air CNC milling machine recently arrived in the High Tech Lab. Stan received it after his drone video went viral, reaching 700,000 views. Makera sent the machine with no strings attached, only asking to be credited as the supplier. Stan makes the machine available to other makers in the lab.
Stan works with Ibe and Thomas in the lab. Together they founded the start-up Incutec, building drones and parts. They use the CNC machine to make needed parts, like carbon drone frames. The machine can mill wood, plastic, and soft metals like aluminum and brass.
One of their first projects was milling Thomas’s head, using the machine’s 4th axis. Makera’s software wasn’t very smooth yet, but the machine was nice to use. They also made a cooling fin for the drones’ ESCs. As Thomas said, “you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”
At the Young Maker Lab, plans are already underway to make chess pieces and other creative projects with the CNC machine. The machine opens new possibilities for the lab and the start-up Incutec.
