Laser cutter
Our High Tech Lab houses Leuven's largest laser cutter. With a working area of 150 by 90 cm you can realise your biggest projects!
About the machine
This machine is a 100 watt CO2 laser cutter, which means it effortlessly cuts paper, wood, MDF, leather, cardboard, acrylic and more. Depending on the type of wood, you can cut sheets up to about 9 mm thick.
Engraving is possible too: both in the materials mentioned above and in more special materials such as glass or slate.
We sometimes have materials in stock; drop by during an Open Lab to check. You are of course always welcome to bring your own material, as long as it can be cut safely with a laser cutter.

- Want to know how the machine works and which software you need to prepare your files? Check out our manual (see the bottom of this page).
- We organise workshops that teach you the basics in a few hours: operating the machine, safety … There are also workshops on designing files for this machine. You can find all workshops in our webshop.
- During Open Labs we are happy to help you with your project and answer your questions where we can.
How and where to use it
- During Open Labs (Thursdays 6–10 pm and Saturdays 2–6 pm) our lab is open continuously and you can use the machine under supervision. Note: your time is limited to 20 minutes, unless nobody is waiting after you. We work first come, first served.
- If you want to reserve the machine for a longer period, you first obtain your certificate (see below). You then receive a link to reserve the machine in half-hour blocks. Note: nobody else will be present in the lab, so you are expected to know everything about lab access, safety and software.
Certification
The laser cutter can only be reserved by people who hold a High Tech Lab certificate. You obtain it by taking a short, free test (about fifteen minutes) on a test evening.
Only take the test once you have already worked with our machine. To prepare, read the manual and the lab access document carefully (see the bottom of this page): anything in there may come up.
The test is free and there is no limit on the number of attempts. Fill in the form and pick an available test evening; we confirm your 15-minute slot by email within 48 hours.
