3D design in CAD for 3D printing (in Dutch)

Is 2D a bit flat for you? In this workshop you learn to create or modify a 3D model in a CAD program, and how to print it on the High Tech Lab's 3D printers. No experience needed: if you can click and drag with a mouse, you're ready. Bring your laptop, preferably with a mouse. No laptop? You can use one of ours. Language: Dutch. Maximum 6 participants. Working with the technical camera

Workshop series: cyanotype meets embroidery

Cyanotype is an old photographic technique that produces deep blue prints on fabric. Using embroidery stitches, you then add colourful accents. Make a patch to hide a stain, or print your cyanotype directly onto a white cotton garment for a unique result. This workshop is a collaboration between the Grafisch Lab and the TextielLab: session 1 takes place in the Grafisch Lab, sessions 2 and 3 in the TextielLab. Want to print your cyanotype directly onto your own clothes? Bring a white (or very light) cotton garment.

Vinyl cutting with the vinyl cutter

19:00–22:00 · High Tech Lab · € 30

In this workshop you learn to cut vinyl with the vinyl cutter: preparing the right files in Inkscape, loading your file into the cutter and cutting the right type of vinyl, and applying it to fabric (with the heat press) or to a smooth surface. We provide laptops, vinyl and something to decorate (plastic cups or fabric bags), but you can bring your own: a tote bag, T-shirt, lunch box, mug or bottle. Extra bags, tote bags, cups and mugs are for sale on the spot. The adhesive vinyl is dishwasher- and microwave-safe. Language: Dutch. Maximum 6 participants. Grandma's knitting workshop

14:00–16:00 · TextielLab · Free

Want your (grand)child to learn how to knit? Join Grandma's knitting workshop on a Wednesday afternoon. Our grandmothers love teaching your grandchild to finger-knit or knit: a little cat, a bow, a garland or even a potholder — everyone at their own pace and preference. The workshop is open between 2 and 4pm: you don't need to stay the whole time, coming later or leaving earlier is fine. It's free. Please register anyway if you think you'll drop by, so we can make sure there's enough material.

Riso with scanner (A6 card)

18:00–21:00 · Grafisch Lab · € 40

In this introduction you learn the basics of Riso printing. We work analogue — drawing, cutting and pasting a postcard — then scan it and print it in two colours on the Riso printer, playing with misregistration, textures and overlay effects. You go home with several cards of your own making.

Want to cut something on the laser cutter or make a custom sticker with the vinyl cutter? It starts with a design in a vector drawing program. In this introduction you learn to work with Inkscape to create your own design. It's also the preparation for the workshop 'Learn to use the laser cutter'. If you have a laptop, bring it; otherwise we lend you one with Inkscape for free. Inkscape is a free download at inkscape.org. Language: English. Maximum 6 participants. Workshop series: shadow knitting

Shadow knitting is a technique where a picture appears through an alternation of two contrasting colours and the precise placement of knit and purl stitches. The image is only visible from an angle. The technique isn't hard, but it does require concentration.

You've found or made a 3D model: how do you print it as well as possible? In this workshop you learn to print an existing model on the High Tech Lab's 3D printers. Postcards on the letterpress

19:00–21:00 · Grafisch Lab · € 40

Studio guide Lise Van den Broucke introduces the basics of the letterpress. You learn to make unique postcards with etching ink, lead type, wooden forms and the proofing press. After the introduction the Graphic Lab opens its doors: from 20:00 to 22:00 anyone can keep experimenting during open lab. Bring an apron — and any thick coloured paper you have at home.
